About the Philadelphia Flyers

Philadelphia Flyers Tickets

Despite not being part of the Original Six, the Philadelphia Flyers have one of the proudest histories of any NHL franchise. They've won only two Stanley Cup Finals victories in their history, but the Flyers also have one of the highest points percentages in NHL history. And among teams outside the Original Six, the Flyers boast the second-highest number of playoff appearances and the most trips to the conference finals. They are truly one of the most iconic franchises the NHL has ever known.

Back-to-Back

It was clear that the Flyers were destined for greatness when they became division champs in their inaugural season in 1967-68. Within a decade, the Flyers had won back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals, knocking off the Bruins to win in 1974 and beating the Sabres in 1975. To date, the 1975 title-winning game in Philadelphia is the last time an NHL team won the Stanley Cup with a team made up entirely of Canadian players.

However, after winning back-to-back championships in the '70s, the Flyers have yet to lift the Stanley Cup for a third time. They've made six trips to the Stanley Cup Finals in the 40-plus years since those titles, but the Flyers haven’t been able to win another NHL championship. Though they did come close in 1987 when they lost Game 7 to the Edmonton Oilers.

What Happened?

Despite having such a proud tradition, things briefly fell apart for the Flyers early in the '90s. They went five straight seasons without reaching the playoffs, a fate that was almost impossible to envision for a team that won nine division titles between 1974 and 1987.

Of course, the Flyers weren’t at the bottom for long. Soon after the NHL reorganized into an Eastern and Western conference, the Flyers seized control of the new Atlantic Division, winning the division title five times in a 10-year span and regularly beating out rivals like the Islanders, Devils, and Capitals. Alas, while the Flyers remain a frequent playoff participant, the chase for the third Stanley Cup win and their first title in more than 40 years continues.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the Flyers play?

The Flyers spent their first 30 seasons playing at the famous Spectrum, but they've called the Wells Fargo Center home since 1996.
