Minnesota Twins History

The Minnesota Twins formed in 1961 after the Washington Senators relocated from the Nation’s Capital to the North Star State. The Twins’ added to the Senators’ 1924 World Series title with two more championships in 1987 and 1991. The team has also claimed six American League Pennants. In 1994, the Twins moved from the AL West to AL Central, where they have secured nine division titles between 2002 and 2023. 

The Minnesota Twins have 13 Hall of Fame inductees, including Harmon Killebrew, Tony Oliva, Kirby Puckett and 2023 addition Joe Mauer. In addition, the Twins have fielded seven AL MVPs, three Cy Young winners and seven Rookie of the Year recipients. Four team managers have received the Manager of the Year distinction, including former player Paul Molitor in 2017.

The Minnesota Twins play at Target Field, located in the historic North Loop warehouse district of downtown Minneapolis. The ballpark opened in 2010 and marks the team’s third home field since moving to Minnesota. Target Field has a current capacity of 39,504. In 2014, Target Field hosted the MLB All-Star Game for the first time.
