Green Day is a punk rock band from California who formed in 1986 and released their debut album, 39/Smooth in 1990.
The group really hit mainstream popularity in 1994 with ‘Dookie’. They were one of the leading bands of the rock-punk revolution period of the 90s and influenced many other young bands coming up.
The group revitalized their career in 2004 with American Idiot, a concept album that follows the story of Jesus of Suburbia, a lower-middle-class American adolescent anti-hero. The album expresses the disillusionment and dissent of a generation that came of age in a period shaped by tumultuous events such as the Iraq War.
Some of Green Day’s biggest hits include When I Come Around, Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), American Idiot, Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Holiday, and 21 Guns.
Green Day’s 2020 album was ‘Father of all Motherfuckers’ and the lead single wass the title track. The group had a huge Hella Mega tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer planned that was postponed due to the pandemic. It eventually occurred in 2022. In early 2024, the group is releasing a new album again and going out on tour. This time, Smashing Pumpkins is coming along to support.
