Vancouver Canucks Overview

The Vancouver Canucks are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL) and play out of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. They compete in the Pacific Division, which is in the Western Conference. The Canucks are one of 7 Canadian teams currently in the NHL. They were founded in 1970 as one of the two new expansion teams, the other being the Buffalo Sabres.

The Canucks have made the Stanley Cup Finals three times in team history, but have yet to come out victorious. They lost to the New York Islanders in 1982, the New York Rangers in 1994, and most recently to the Boston Bruins in 2011. The Canucks, along with the Sabres, who joined the league simultaneously, are the two oldest teams to have never won a Stanley Cup.

Although they haven’t won a championship, the Canucks had a lot of success in the early 2010s. They were led by brothers Daniel and Henrik Sedin, who led the team to back-to-back best records during the regular season in 2010 and 2011. Goalie Roberto Luongo was one of the best goalies in the league during that time. Since then, they haven’t been able to find that same success.

The team is now relatively young, but looking to get back to the success of the early 2010s. Goalie Thatcher Demko leads the team along with young superstars such as Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, and Conor Garland.

Rogers Arena Overview

Rogers Arena is a multi-purpose arena located near Downtown Vancouver. It opened in 1995 and was initially known as GM Place until the 2010 season when Rogers Communication bought the naming rights. Right now, only the Canucks and the Vancouver Warriors of the National Lacrosse League occupy the stadium. It also used to play host to the Vancouver Grizzlies when they had an NBA team, but that ended in 2001 when the Grizzlies were relocated to Memphis.

The capacity for hockey games is 18,910, and the capacity for basketball games is 19,700. The arena also plays hosts to concerts where the capacity is 19,000. Vancouver also played host to the 2010 Winter Olympics, where the stadium was used for the ice hockey portion of the Olympics.

There have been talks about another NBA team returning to Canada, and it seems that Vancouver would be one of the most sought-after places. If that were the case, I would assume the team would come back to play at Rogers Arena for home games.

How to Get Cheap Vancouver Canucks Tickets

Ticketmaster

Ticketmaster is the largest official ticket outlet in Canada and the United States for sports tickets. Every single team in every league has partnered with Ticketmaster to sell tickets to their games safely and securely.

One nice thing about Ticketmaster is that they also have third-party verified tickets available from season ticket holders. Season ticket holders can post their tickets directly to Ticketmaster for a small fee, who then sells them to fans who missed out on first-party tickets. This means you can be sure you are getting secure tickets.

The only downside to Ticketmaster is that the fees attached to its ticket sales are pretty high compared to some of the other third-party ticket sites. You may not get the cheapest Canucks tickets, but you know the tickets will be secure and legitimate.

StubHub

StubHub is our favorite third-party ticket setting website for buying cheap tickets to sporting events. Most sports leagues have a third party partnership with StubHub to sell and advertise tickets for their games. StubHub has the largest selection of resale tickets available for events, which often pushes the cost down below face value.

StubHub will show you if the ticket listed is a reasonable price or not compared to the average price and the location of the seat.

StubHub also has a rewards program that you can join. You earn credits through purchasing tickets, and once you earn enough credits, you can apply these to your purchase for even cheaper tickets.

All tickets purchased through StubHub are 100% guaranteed, so you can be sure you are getting safe and legitimate tickets. I highly recommend checking out StubHub for cheap Vancouver Canucks tickets.

GameTime

One of the most recent and best ways I have found cheap Canucks tickets is through Gametime. Gametime is known for last-minute ticket deals for every single professional sport. These tickets are 100% guaranteed through Gametime and are often the cheapest tickets you will find last minute.

Gametime works with teams and venues to get blocks of unsold tickets, which they advertise as last minute deals. It allows Gametime to offer cheap prices and low fees by selling tickets that would otherwise go unsold.

If you don’t need to plan ahead, I highly recommend waiting last minute to buy your tickets. If you wait until the day of and even a few hours before the game starts, very cheap tickets will be available. They are delivered to your smartphone almost instantly and offer event cancellation protection should the event not go as planned.

Gametime is a top pick for finding the cheapest Vancouver Canucks tickets.

How Much are Vancouver Canucks Tickets?

The average ticket price to a Vancouver Canucks hockey game is about $80 per ticket. You will pay substantially more if you want to sit in the lower bowl.

Tickets in Vancouver are amongst the highest in the NHL, due to the demand for the team.

Cheap Vancouver Canucks Away Game Tickets

If you want to see the Canucks for cheaper, consider travelling to an away game to see the team. Seattle is within driving distance and has a lower average ticket price.

Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of other teams within driving distance. Calgary and Edmonton are doable, but they also have high average ticket prices. Consider a direct flight down to Los Angeles, Phoenix, San Jose, or Las Vegas for cheaper tickets.

When Do Vancouver Canucks Tickets Go on Sale?

The NHL Season starts each year in the beginning of October. The schedule for the NHL releases in July, meaning you can begin purchasing single game tickets off third-party websites a day after the schedule is released.

These single-game tickets on third-party sites are season ticket holders who cannot make select games. They will put tickets up for sale immediately in order to get them sold to eager fans looking to go.

Tips for Buying Vancouver Canucks Tickets

Want more tips for buying cheap Canucks tickets? Check out these other ideas to consider.

Go to weekday games

Heading to games that aren’t on a Friday or Saturday will be cheaper due to supply and demand. Most people planning trips to watch their favorite team will arrange to see them on the weekend. This means that weekend games will be much more expensive than games during the week.

People may also not want to be out late on a weekday because they have work or other things to do the next day. Buy cheaper Vancouver Canucks tickets during the week.

Skip games against rivals

Games against rival divisional teams will be way more expensive than any other game. Also, games against Canadian teams are often higher in price because these teams have big, distributed fan bases.

If you choose a game against a US non-divisional team during the weekday, you will find the cheapest tickets.

Avoid advance sales

Most NHL teams will offer advance sales once the schedule is released for fans who can’t wait to purchase their tickets. Advance sales will come with a higher cost for tickets.

Yes, you are getting your tickets guaranteed right away, but they will be much more expensive than if you were to wait closer to the game.

With travel plans, this may not always be possible, but something for you to keep an eye on.

Buy tickets the day of the game

Waiting until game day and purchasing tickets on Gametime will be the best way to get the cheapest tickets to a hockey game. When it gets closer to the game, sellers are more desperate to get any money for their tickets, which means they will list them lower than they usually would.

Take advantage of these sellers!

The biggest drawback is that you might not be able to wait. If you are travelling from out of town, you want to secure your tickets early. And if the game is sold out, there will be nothing on Gametime to purchase!

Other Things To Do In Vancouver

Stanley Park

Stanley Park is the third-largest park in North America, and I highly recommend checking it out if you have a chance while in Vancouver. The park is over 1,000 acres and has many hikes, walking trails, and more. There is also a 5.5-mile-long path that runs right along the water, and in the Winter, you can rent skates and skate down it. The views are incredible, and there is also an in-house aquarium for fish lovers.

Granville Island

Granville Island was an abandoned industrial site until it became tourist heaven. Many different shops, farmer markets, seafood stands, and breweries are located here. It is incredibly popular and always packed with tourists from around the world.

There are also many restaurants and two different Theatres where you can check out some of the newest shows and musicals. I highly recommend checking out Granville Island when in Vancouver.

FlyOver Canada

FlyOver Canada is a very popular experience similar to the ride Soarin’ at Disneyworld. You buckle in and get suspended in the air with your feet dangling, staring at a 20-meter spherical screen. It utilizes state-of-the-art technology to give the feeling that you are flying.

Initially, you will watch a 25-minute video introducing you to the country of Canada. Once on the ride, it takes about 8 minutes to complete. There will be special effects, including the feeling of wind and also different scents that make you feel like you are in the moment. It is a very cool experience, and I recommend it, especially if you want to learn more about Canada’s history.
