Minnesota Wild Overview

The Minnesota Wild are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL). They compete in the Central Division which is in the Western Conference. The Minnesota Wild were founded in 1997, but did not begin actually playing in the league until the 2000-01 season. The state of Minnesota initially had the North Stars, but they departed to Dallas after the 1993 season and Minnesota was without a team for four years.

The best season that the Wild have been able to string together came back in the 2002-03 season when they made their first playoffs appearance and made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Other than that, they were able to win their division in 2007-08 and that is where the success ultimately ends so far.

The Wild have had many great NHL players play for the team over the course of its history. The team started out by drafting Marian Gaborik third overall in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft and he led the team for the following nine years. After Gaborik left, it was Mikki Koivu, Zach Parise and Ryan Suter leading the team (the latter two signing identical 13-year contracts in the 2012 off-season).

Currently, the Wild are led by phenom Kirill Kaprizov. He, along with Mats Zuccarrello and company will be looking to find that earlier success that the franchise had.

Xcel Energy Center Overview

Xcel Energy Arena is an indoor multi-purpose use arena located in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The arena was built back in 2000, on the site of where the St. Paul Civic Centre was before it was demolished. The North Stars left the city in 1992 and Minnesota tried desperately to get another NHL team there, but a new arena was needed. The name sponsor is Xcel Energy and the arena is commonly referred to as “The X.”

The capacity for hockey games is 17,954. The Minnesota Wild hockey team are currently the only sports team that plays out of the Xcel Energy Arena. The Minnesota Lynx of the WBNA used the arena briefly during the 2016 WNBA Playoffs when their home arena was under renovation. It is unclear at this time if another team will be using the arena or just the Wild.

The arena also plays host to many other events such as concerts and University sporting events. It also played host to the 2008 Republican National Convention. In 2010, Xcel Energy Arena was named the third best arena experience as per the ESPN magazine.

How to Get Cheap Minnesota Wild Tickets

Ticketmaster

Ticketmaster is the largest official ticket outlet in Canada and the United States for sports tickets. Every single team in every league has partnered with Ticketmaster to sell tickets to their games safely and securely.

One nice thing about Ticketmaster is that they also have third-party verified tickets available from season ticket holders. Season ticket holders can post their tickets directly to Ticketmaster for a small fee, who then sells them to fans who missed out on first-party tickets. This means you can be sure you are getting secure tickets.

The only downside to Ticketmaster is that the fees attached to its ticket sales are pretty high compared to some of the other third-party ticket sites. You may not get the cheapest Wild tickets, but you know the tickets will be secure and legitimate.

StubHub

StubHub is our favorite third-party ticket setting website for buying cheap tickets to sporting events. Most sports leagues have a third party partnership with StubHub to sell and advertise tickets for their games. StubHub has the largest selection of resale tickets available for events, which often pushes the cost down below face value.

StubHub will show you if the ticket listed is a reasonable price or not compared to the average price and the location of the seat.

StubHub also has a rewards program that you can join. You earn credits through purchasing tickets, and once you earn enough credits, you can apply these to your purchase for even cheaper tickets.

All tickets purchased through StubHub are 100% guaranteed, so you can be sure you are getting safe and legitimate tickets. I highly recommend checking out StubHub for cheap Minnesota Wild tickets.

GameTime

One of the most recent and best ways I have found cheap Wild tickets is through Gametime. Gametime is known for last-minute ticket deals for every single professional sport. These tickets are 100% guaranteed through Gametime and are often the cheapest tickets you will find last minute.

Gametime works with teams and venues to get blocks of unsold tickets, which they advertise as last minute deals. It allows Gametime to offer cheap prices and low fees by selling tickets that would otherwise go unsold.

If you don’t need to plan ahead, I highly recommend waiting last minute to buy your tickets. If you wait until the day of and even a few hours before the game starts, very cheap tickets will be available. They are delivered to your smartphone almost instantly and offer event cancellation protection should the event not go as planned.

Gametime is a top pick for finding the cheapest Minnesota Wild tickets.

When Do Minnesota Wild Tickets Go on Sale?

The Minnesota Wild typically release their schedule for the upcoming season in the summer, and tickets for individual games typically go on sale at that time. The date tickets go on sale can vary yearly, so it is a good idea to check the team’s official website or social media accounts for updates. It may be helpful to compare prices and seating options from various sources to find the best deal on tickets.

Remember that popular games and seating areas may sell out quickly, so it may be a good idea to purchase tickets as soon as they become available if you are interested in attending a specific game.

Tips for Buying Minnesota Wild Tickets

Want more tips for buying cheap Wild tickets? Check out these other ideas to consider.

Go to weekday games

Heading to games that aren’t on a Friday or Saturday will be cheaper due to supply and demand. Most people planning trips to watch their favorite team will arrange to see them on the weekend. This means that weekend games will be much more expensive than games during the week.

People may also not want to be out late on a weekday because they have work or other things to do the next day. Buy cheaper Minnesota Wild tickets during the week.

Skip games against rivals

Games against rival divisional teams will be way more expensive than any other game. Also, games against Canadian teams are often higher in price because these teams have big, distributed fan bases.

You will find the cheapest tickets if you choose a game against a US non-divisional team during the weekday.

Avoid advance sales

Most NHL teams will offer advance sales once the schedule is released for fans who can’t wait to purchase their tickets. Advance sales will come with a higher cost for tickets.

Yes, you are guaranteed your tickets immediately, but they will be much more expensive than if you wait closer to the game.

With travel plans, this may not always be possible, but something for you to keep an eye on.

Buy tickets on the day of the game

Waiting until game day and purchasing tickets on Gametime will be the best way to get the cheapest tickets to a hockey game. When it gets closer to the game, sellers are more desperate to get any money for their tickets, which means they will list them lower than they usually would.

Take advantage of these sellers!

The biggest drawback is that you might not be able to wait. If you are travelling from out of town, you want to secure your tickets early. And if the game is sold out, there will be nothing on Gametime to purchase!

Other Things To Do In Minneapolis

Minnesota State Fair

If you are heading to Minnesota near Labour Day, you must stop at the Minnesota State Fair. It is 12 straight days of fun, bringing in almost 2 million guests annually from around the world. There are many things happening including creative food stands, Grandstand concerts, horse racing and more. There are also rides for both adults and children to enjoy!

Science Museum of Minnesota

The Science Museum of Minnesota is located on the riverfront in downtown Saint Paul. It is a large, six-story museum that is sure to have something for all ages of the family. There are many engaging exhibits and massive screens showing different movies along with other special events throughout the year. This is a great way to spend a day with the family.

Thousands of people travel to Minnesota just to come see this Science Museum, so I recommend checking it out too.

Target Field/Target Center/US Bank Stadium

If you are a sports fan, you have to check out all of the sports that Minnesota has to offer. The great thing is that all of these arenas are either connected or within a few blocks walking distance.

Target Field is where the Minnesota Twins play baseball and the Target Center is where the Minnesota Timberwolves play basketball. These two arenas are connected by parking garages and tunnels. US Bank Stadium is where the Minnesota Vikings play football in the NFL and it is just down the street from the other two arenas.
